We have excellent opportunity for a Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager to join our team of "Good People to Know".

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Manage the commercial lines underwriting function and staff in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve profitable underwriting results and growth. Manage and coordinate related functions of this process to achieve overall branch goals to support corporate objectives. Coordinate related activities with other branch and home office departments to attain profitability of the book of businesses while maintaining the best possible agency, policyholder and public relations.

Serve as the team's formal leader and spokesperson with the resident vice president, functional department heads, other stakeholders and teams within and outside the department/branch.

Extensive contact with agents, insureds, and state insurance departments.

Extensive contact with underwriting staff and other profit center and home office departments.

1. Organize and coordinate team staff activities and procedures to meet branch profitability, regional objectives, quality risk selection, audit quality, production, service and loss ratio goals.

2. Assure agency service, business planning and performance evaluations are executed by the team and other functional support units.

3. Provide technical advice on complex underwriting and service issues to team members ensuring compliance to state laws and company requirements.

4. Monitor and direct underwriters in pricing and risk selection within company guidelines. Handle underwriting files in cases of work overload or other local needs.

4. Facilitate teamwork among staff and with other departments and disciplines. ..

5. Set goals with the team. . Coordinate and monitor with team members' action plans for obtaining team goals focusing on agents' business objectives as well as team objectives.

6. Maintain current knowledge of changes in the insurance field as related to the team's role in the branch operations.

7. Coordinate the training and development of the assigned unit including staffing, salary administration, workflow, career development, resource allocation and other related issues.

8. Compile self audits by evaluating risk quality, pricing, service and class of business in order to monitor adherence to underwriting guidelines and procedures.

9. Review, interpret and implement procedures in response to changing state laws and company policies. Make recommendations and present to management.

10. Manage work schedules, budgeting, expense management, goal setting, and human resource issues.

11. Prepare and submit various status reports for management

Qualifications Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible underwriting experience , with previous supervisory/management experience

Bachelor Degree or Equivalent, SM, CPCU, AU, and ARe

Excellent technical knowledge of various issues and areas confronting the team including underwriting, service and marketing areas.

Excellent understanding of the profit center operations.

Thorough working knowledge of sound underwriting principles, policies, procedures, and controls.

Excellent working knowledge of various commercial line products, procedures, and guidelines and any up-dates to them.

Thorough working knowledge of state statutes and regulations pertaining to line assignments.

Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.

Experience and skill in utilizing appropriate interpersonal styles to manage group process issues, motivate and guide individuals to achieve objectives.

Excellent problem solving, analytical and decision making skills.

Excellent knowledge of agency management..

In-depth knowledge of group and team dynamics.

Proven management skills in maintaining profitability of team while managing team results including meeting various management objectives while effectively allocating appropriate resources as needed.

Ability to use personal computer with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
